Used pallet racking can cut capital costs by 50% or more — but only when it's the right grade, the right brand and properly inspected. Here's how to decide.
The case for used racking
Quality inspected used racking from established UK brands typically performs identically to new for a fraction of the price. For 90% of standard adjustable pallet racking applications, used is the smart commercial choice.
Rackstor holds one of the UK's largest inspected used stocks — Dexion, Link 51, Redirack, Stow and more — ready for nationwide delivery.
When to specify new
New racking is the right call for cold stores, very narrow aisle (VNA), drive-in, push-back, pallet live and any system with non-standard beam loads or seismic requirements.
Specifying new also makes sense where warranty, RAL colour matching or guaranteed lead-time matter more than capital saving.
What to inspect before buying used
Check uprights for impact damage, twist and weld cracks. Beams should be straight, with intact safety clips and clear load stamping.
Reject anything that has been painted over — paint hides damage. Reputable suppliers like Rackstor inspect to SEMA guidance and reject up to a third of incoming stock.
