Annual expert racking inspections aren't optional — they're required by HSE guidance HSG76. Here's what a SEMA-approved inspection actually covers.
The legal background
HSE guidance HSG76 requires that pallet racking is inspected by a 'technically competent person' at intervals no longer than 12 months. In practice this means a SEMA Approved Rack Inspector (SARI).
Weekly visual checks by a designated PRRS (Person Responsible for Rack Safety) sit alongside the annual expert inspection.
Red, amber, green
Damage is classified RED (immediate offload), AMBER (repair within 4 weeks) or GREEN (monitor). A good inspection report tags every damaged component with a photo, location and a clear action.
Repairs must restore the racking to original manufacturer specification — never weld, straighten or paint over damaged uprights.
What you receive
A Rackstor SEMA inspection delivers a written report, photographic schedule of damage, repair quotation and updated load notices — everything you need for HSE, insurer and audit purposes.
